Iowa Coach Killer Sentenced To Life In Prison (Charlotte Observer, Nigel Duara)

This article is about a man named Mark Becker who murdered Ed Thomas, an outstanding high school football coach and loving father and grandfather. Thomas was Becker's former coach when he played football. June 24 is the day Becker stole Thomas' own gun and walked into the gym where he was watching over 20 football and volleyball players and opened fire fatally killing Thomas. Prosecutors and defense lawyers agreed that Becker suffered from paranoid schizophrenia. There were many occasions when Becker's family had to call police on him in his own house, because he would go crazy having illusions about Thomas appearing in his home assaulting him. He showed up to court in a blue jumpsuit with shaggy hair and a beard, holding a bible. Ed Thomas' family preached on how bad it has tore their family apart. Thomas's brother said that the life term sentence isn't the worst to come, he will have to answer to God. Becker is still trying to get out of it by pleading insanity.

Chapter 14 describes different types of psychological disorders. In this chapter the description of Schizophrenia can be found, which is what the murder Mark Becker has suffered from. Schizophrenia is a Becker often had these fantasy thoughts of Thomas breaking in his house and assaulting him which could have led him to murder Coach Thomas.
